2025 Asha S. Burtin

Asha S. Burtin is an oral historian, singer-songwriter, and producer. In undergrad, she majored in music production with a double minor in African American studies as well as gender and sexuality studies at Rider University. During her time in undergrad she took advantage of opportunities to shed light on the plight of Black American people, specifically Black women, such as being a recurring panelist at her university’s events surrounding gender, culture, sexuality and race. When it came time to pick something to focus on for her thesis project at OHMA, she knew that she wanted to create an oral history project that fused all of her interests, music/music history, Blackness, and gender studies.
