Her work explores the quieter form of historical and personal discovery: rediscovery. She is interested in how buried or repressed collective experiences return to shape the stories we tell about ourselves today. She was first introduced to oral history through a project documenting Estonian refugees of Soviet and Nazi occupations. She enjoys visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and working on her needlepoint.

Join us for a virtual presentation of Swallowed Whole: Traces of a Past Buried in the Earth, a multimedia oral history project exploring memory, exile, and rediscovery through the story of Kaja Weeks and her family's flight from Soviet-occupied Estonia. This immersive website weaves together interview excerpts, archival footage, poetry, and imagery of a growing sinkhole that marks the site of a long-buried past. The session will include a guided walkthrough, discussion, and Q&A.
